My name is Dr. Samuel A Johnson Ph.D., and I’m the Clinical Director at Recovery Revelations. I got in the field of substance abuse treatment services because I wanted to give back the perspective and joy I had experienced in my sobriety. I had suffered for over 30+ years in my own addiction to drugs and alcohol. Homeless, in and out of jail, panhandling on street corners, etc. On December 17th, 2001 while locked-up I had a spiritual awaking. Being chemically challenged is not an inherent quality of trait and it is not linked with any particular identity, nor does it define the people experiencing it.
Each individual is unique and must be addressed in that way, and each person is worthy of being treated equally in society and should be given the utmost opportunity to succeed and transition out of a state of chemical dependency. I realized I didn’t want to live like that anymore. So from that point on, I decided I were going to work as hard on staying sober, as I did getting drugs and alcohol. Fast-forwarding; for me I found peace in a power greater than myself. I call GOD. I went back to school, worked very hard, and 6 years later walked with my Ph.D. in Biblical Counseling/ Behavioral Modification Therapy.
My generated advocacy is critical to creating the systemic changes needed to confront the chemically challenged. My advocacy model constitutes working with people experiencing chemical dependency, bringing about positive changes in their program. I enjoy pouring into people who may still be suffering, I’m also a Reverend, and love to teach. I’m a Drummer and play with a band called The Best Of The West Jazz, Funk, and R&B. My hope to set in place a positive form of environmental rehabilitation.
